Your company has been doing background screening for pre-employment for some time now, but have you thought about doing post-employment screening?  Post-employment screening ensures that you are keeping up to date with all of your employees, no matter how long they have worked at the company.

  1. Establish a written policy for post-employment screening. Candidates and employees should have a full understanding of the company’s screening policies and procedures, especially when conducting post-hire screenings. Have the policy available for employee review.
  2. Make sure you have a signed release form authorizing the right to conduct a background check throughout employment. If you did not do this upon hiring, you can do this at any time, just make sure you have a policy that covers all employees at every level and are consistent in carrying out your background checks.
  3. Be consistent with your post-employment screening. It is imperative to be fair, consistent and transparent with your screening policies at each level.
  4. Essential Screens recommends companies re-screen employees annually or biannually.
