Fraud Abuse Control Information System

FACIS searches for exclusions, sanctions, debarments, and disciplinary actions against healthcare professionals. FACIS includes several federal sources including the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Office of Inspector General (OIG), List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE), the System for Award Management (SAM), and Excluded Parties List System (EPLS).

The OIG/GSA exclusions list is a nationwide database of sanctioned individuals and organizations that are excluded from participating in federally funded healthcare programs like Medicare and Medicaid. Checks here are important because it affects not only the individual on the list but excludes the organizations that employ them as well. Organizations who hire a candidate on the exclusions list may be subject to lofty civil monetary penalties and may also be removed from federally funded healthcare programs like Medicare and Medicaid. Mitigate risk to not only your organization, but your patients and staff when you run healthcare sanctions checks with Essential Screens!

System for Award Management

Applicants, subcontractors, vendors, and other individuals involved in your business should be screened with a SAM check – especially if you’re in the healthcare industry. As with OIG/GSA, stiff potential penalties await employers who hire individuals on the SAM exclusion list. These individuals are prohibited from participating in federal contracts of any type, including federal healthcare programs.

It’s important to note that OIG/GSA checks are not just for clinicians but any staff member working within your business as these individuals affect your standing as well.
